Does acupuncture hurt?

Due to the very thin diameter of the needles used, there is not typically pain associated with an acupuncture treatment. There may be different sensations, such as tingling, heaviness, warmth, pressure or movement. These are known as "de qi" and are a good sign that the needles are doing their job!

How many treatments will I need?

The amount of treatments needed varies from case to case. Longer-term, chronic conditions typically require more treatments to resolve, while short-term, acute conditions can often be resolved in fewer treatments. Initial treatments are most effective when spaced close together, as acupuncture tends to have a cumulative effect. As symptoms ease, treatments can be spread out over longer time spans.

Do you take insurance?

We are not currently in-network with any health insurance companies. If your insurance plan covers out-of-network acupuncture providers, I am happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company to receive reimbursement for the treatment cost.

What to expect . . .

On your first visit, we will do a thorough intake interview, going over your health history, details of any current health issues and goals for treatment. I will feel your pulse and look at your tongue, both of which offer valuable diagnostic information!

The intake will be followed by an acupuncture treatment. Once the needles are in, you'll rest for about half an hour. Most people find this time very relaxing.

Follow-up visits include a more brief check-in about any changes, and an acupuncture treatment.

It's best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, and have a light snack or meal prior to your session.
